Description
Item Description:According to English short title catalogue T168107 the place of publication is false and the work is possibly printed in the Netherlands. Date from English short title catalogue
Attributed to Fréret in the prelim. Avis à lìmprimeur. Sometimes also attributed to the baron d' Holbach and J.A. Naigeon. Cf. Vercruysse, J. Holbach, p. 38-39
Attributed to Fréret in the Avis, but authorship much discussed. ESTC (RLIN) attributes to the baron d'Holbach, but this attribution is refuted by J. Vercruysse, Holbach, p. 38-39, who attributes the work to Fréret. There is a long discussion of the question and conclusion in favor of Fréret in the critical ed. of the Lettre by Sergio Landucci (Florence: 1986) p. 15-73
Date of publication taken from BLC, 116, p. 185
Half title: Thrasibule à Leucippe
Includes La Moïsade (p. 234-252), also generally attributed to Fréret
With errata leaf ([2] p.) at end
"La Moïsade", by Lourdet (wrongly attributed to Rousseau and to Voltaire) p. 289-312, is a criticism on the religious teaching of the Pentateuch
