This Latin translation from the Greek has been attributed to Robert Grosseteste (approximately 1175-1253), bishop of Lincoln, as it is similar to that in Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, MS. lat. 6305, fols. 1-60v. Aristotle, Politica, books 1-8. The Flemish Dominican William of Moerbeke (approximately 1215-1286) made this translation from the Greek around 1260

561 |a Garrett MS. 102 was probably produced in Italy for university use. The earliest identifiable owner was Thomas Rethford, Doctor of Theology, who may be identified as Thomas de Ratford, an English Franciscan who was 63rd lector at Oxford around 1340. Intermediate provenance is unknown. Robert Garrett (1875-1961), of Baltimore, Maryland, Class of 1897, purchased the manuscript on 22 december 1924 from the New York antiquarian bookseller Wilfrid M. Voynich (1865-1930). Garrett's bookplate is on the inside front cover. His gift to the Princeton University Library, 1942
