Description
Summary:Embracing a holistic structure, this third report focuses on the second objectives set out by the expert group in 1999, to accelerate coverage and investments for basic human water needs, giving priority to developing counties. It discusses factors that drive the pressures on water, among them demographics, laws and finance, and climate change; using water from perspectives such as the evolution of water use and impacts of water use on water systems and the environment; the state of water resources and the changes they are undergoing; and responses and choices inside and beyond the water sector. The first volume, Water in a Changing World contains the discussions; the second, Facing the Challenges, presents case studies from countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean. "Languages are not only tools of communication, they also reflect a view of the world. Languages are vehicles of value systems and cultural expressions and are an essential component of the living heritage of humanity. Yet, many of them are in danger of disappearing. UNESCO's Atlas of the World's Languages in Danger tries to raise awareness on language endangerment. This third edition has been completely revies and expanded to include [a] new series of maps and new points of view."--Cover, p.4
